Walters was a longtime journalist, having previously been an anchor for the Today show, the ABC Evening News and 20/20. Her reputation thrived on the exclusive interviews she had over the years, including ones with Michael Jackson and Anna Wintour. ABC eventually granted her own 20/20 spinoff, The Barbara Walters Special, which highlighted the lives of Patrick Swayze and Farrah Fawcett, among countless other A-list stars. Her most recognizable endeavor was as co-creator and co-executive producer of The View, which she cohosted for more than two decades before retiring in 2014. She was married and divorced three times (to business exec Robert Henry Katz, theatrical producer Lee Guber, with whom she adopted daughter Jacqueline in 1968, and Lorimar Television CEO Merv Adelson, whom she wed twice). In addition to her marriages, the famed talk show host dated numerous prominent men in Washington and confessed to having an affair with then-married Sen. Edward Brooke in the 1970s. Walters died on December 30, 2022, at age 93.
