August 30, 1972About
The California native was born in San Diego and raised in Long Beach until she signed a modeling contract at age 16 that took her across the world. She went from model to actress after she achieved fame in her breakout role in 1994’s The Mask. This part set the precedent for Diaz’s career: her goofy, carefree style and striking good looks create winning performances.
The star’s “hair-gel” scene in There’s Something About Mary is considered to be among the greatest movie moments of the ’90s while My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Holiday and The Sweetest Thing are regarded as some of cinema’s most classic romantic comedies. She is also the voice of Princess Fiona in the Shrek franchise.
When not making audiences laugh, Diaz has delved into more serious characters, starring in films such as Oscar-contender Gangs of New York and My Sister’s Keeper.
After 2014’s Annie remake, the Longevity Book author took a step back from acting. She acknowledged she was “semi-retired” in 2018, but her return to acting was confirmed in 2022. She was announced to star opposite Jamie Foxx in Netflix’s Back in Action, an action-comedy.
Diaz started dating Jared Leto in 1999, and they were briefly engaged before their 2003 split. Later that year, she started a relationship with Justin Timberlake, but the pair called it quits in 2007. Us Weekly broke the news in May 2014 that the Charlie’s Angels star was dating Benji Madden. She married the Good Charlotte rocker in 2015, and they welcomed daughter Raddix via surrogate in December 2019.
