Four-time Emmy Award-winning reality singing competition The Voice searches for the best unsigned singing talent in America. The series premiered in the U.S. in April 2011 and was inspired by the Dutch program The Voice of Holland. The competition features a panel of four musicians who coach their handpicked groups of artists throughout the season, with the hope that one will secure the grand prize of $100,000 and a record deal with Universal Music Group.
Each season kicks off with the Blind Auditions phase, during which the judges first listen to the contestants’ voices with their backs to the stage. When a coach likes what they hear, they push a button to spin their chair around before trying to convince the artist to join their team for the next four rounds of competition: Battle Rounds, Knockouts, Playoffs and Live Performance Shows. The show’s winner is determined by a combination of television viewers, the internet, SMS text and iTunes Store purchases of the audio-recorded artists’ vocal performances.
The original panel of coaches featured Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. Season 24, which premiered in September 2023, included Gwen Stefani, John Legend,Niall Horan and Reba McEntire on the panel. Other notable coaches over the years include Shakira, Usher, Nick Jonas, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Alicia Keys and Pharrell Williams.
The Voice airs on NBC Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
